We walked up to their street corner HQ to a set-up of knee-high tables and little red stools, a warm welcome to the RPS philosophy: authentic representations of Asian culture and cuisine.

They served the team fresh brewed coffee and told us stories about the curious red stools we see at all their pop-ups. Women at the markets in Hanoi sit on them while hawking at passers-by to buy food, men get drunk on them, old ladies curl up and hug their knees on them, and Katie and Valerie themselves were kicked off of two by a woman who suspected them of meddling with her marriage- they spent about 8 hours picking the guy’s brain about food.

The girls devoted quite a bit of time to observing and working with street food vendors, learning food preparation and practices in Vietnam. They have collected a whole lot of footage, and anticipate a return to Vietnam in the next few months. We hope it’s the beginning of yummy and fun collaborations with SF’s sidewalk sisters, 12FPS style!

Herman B. Rockin is not only a puppet but the mascot of Coaster, a mobile app that allows you to order drinks on your phone and pick them up at the bar.  We recently decided to put the app to the test.  Herman, while adorable and charming, often gets lost in the crowd so we took him for a night out on the town to see if he could score some drinks for a few babes at the bar using Coaster.  The lounge was packed, the girls were hot and the app worked like a charm!  We documented the whole thing so check it out!

Famous forager Connie Green has a passion for wild mushrooms and has been “hunting” mushrooms for nearly 35 years. She sells them to high-end restaurants like French Laundry, a three-star Michelin restaurant in Yountville, California. She doesn’t have a farm, she simply goes out, deep into the woods, and puts herself in the mindset of a mushroom.

The 12FPS crew went to California’s Napa Valley to experience the wisdom of Connie Green, owner of Wine Forest, as a pilot for a series for a Bay Area startup that will feature vendors and suppliers of wild foods nationwide. Not surprisingly, they were greeted with the most exceptional array of wild foraged mushrooms, sea greens, and berries.

Wine Forest goes beyond the term “organic”. Connie sells food that is non-farmed and hand-picked, which often fall out of the jurisdiction of the National Organic Program. The truly wild food served at Connie Green’s were neither harvested nor produced; they were found, washed and presented to her guests to be eaten just as they are regularly presented to French Laundry patrons to be enjoyed in delectable dishes.

It was this idea of going back to our ancestral roots and beyond western conventions that resonated with the mission of 12FPS. We too like getting our hands dirty and branching out into new territories. From robotics and hi-tech cameras to fashion lookbooks and wild wholesale pantries, we like to explore new fields and relish food for thought.

A video Lookbook was produced in collaboration with San Francisco-based designer, Nikki Garcia, to explore her inspiration for First Rite’s Fall 2012 women’s collection.

Filmed in Point Reyes, California, the video showcases the Fall 2012 Collection in a ranch setting to capture the essence of the new line and to artfully play with the concept of feminine silhouettes.

“I used a combination of wools and silks to create an equal balance of structure and drape.”

Meg Webb, also known as Arrow Lourette, was the Lookbook’s featured model and composed the video’s soundtrack. Through the lens of Directors Adam Shaening-Pokrasso and Heidi Petty, she expertly embodies the theme of balance, the common thread in the new collection: the balance of tradition and modern, masculine and feminine, structure and drape.

First Rite’s Fall 2012 collection marks the 4th season for the San Francisco-based line. The clothing line will be available in three San Francisco locations; Voyager, Revolver, and Rand + Statler, and in New York’s lower east side boutique, End of Century. 12FPS just wrapped up filming a collaborative project with Charmaine Olivia, a San Francisco-based artist who embodies the work she creates, almost literally.  She has developed a global following because not only does she see art wherever she goes, she shares art wherever she goes.  Through social media she has reached an audience larger than previously possible.  We were inspired by her ability to navigate both physical and digital mediums and fascinated by this new generation of artists she represents.  We reached out to Charmaine Olivia to capture the story of a free-spirited painter empowered by a network of free-thinkers.
